WOO! Another week of marathon training down! This week was interesting, as my hamstring soreness from last week lingered all the way until Wednesday! I had to rearrange my training a little, but I still got most of it in. I also finished off the week with a GREAT run in Central Park w/ Felicia. Running with another person is seriously the best thing ever. It’s put some fire back in my step and was exactly what I’ve needed. Nice work, Felicia!! (Also, nice work at not letting me out of the apartment with that long sleeve jacket on. It was over 60 degrees and I was dressed for about 40 degree weather. Luckily she talked some sense into me.)
Here is what my week looked like:
- Monday: 45 minutes easy on the elliptical-ish novelty machine. My hammies weren’t happy with me. I *may* have been a bad influence on Felicia and convinced her to go home for dinner instead of going to 7:30PM yoga. Whoops. I think we were both mostly happy with the decision, though.
- Tuesday: 5 miles easy (average pace 9:04). My hamstrings were still really bugging me so I decided not to do my planned workout.
- Wednesday: Off. When I woke up on Wednesday and realized my hamstring issue still wasn’t resolved, I decided it was time for a day off. It was def the right choice, as I felt way better when I woke up on Thursday.
- Thursday: 6 miles total including 10×1:00 pickups at 7:00/mile pace with 1:00 recovery. This was my workout that I had planned for Tuesday, but I did it Thursday as I was so glad to finally be feeling better.
- Friday: 5 miles easy (average pace 9:56)
- Saturday: 10 miles total, including 4×2000m in 9:10 (7:40 pace) and 3×200 in 0:45 (6:00 pace). This was my planned workout for Thursday, and I did it on the treadmill because it was pouring rain. It by the third and fourth 2000m repeat, I was getting pretty tired. I think my form was also a little funky, as I woke up with some shoulder soreness. I really need to get off that treadmill for this type of workout in the future.
- Sunday: 10 miles total, in a kind of weirdly fragmented but completely delightful way. I was scheduled for 30 minutes easy, 30 minutes medium, and 30 minutes medium/hard. I started off (accidentally) with a 7:43 mile. (I was late to meet Felicia). We then headed to Central Park, where our splits together were the following: 9:50/9:45/9:30/9:03/9:00/8:40/8:04. I then followed it with 1.6 miles in 8:00 pace on some brutal hills. I finished the last .4 as cooldown once we got back to our apt. Given that I didn’t want to go too hard on the day after a workout, I was pretty happy with how it went. And we saw a barefoot runner!!!! His feet were super dirty.
Goals for Last Week
- Run 6 times: I only ran 5 days for a total of 36 miles, but since I think it was the right decision to take a day off on Wednesday, so I’m considering it a win.
- Foam Roll: I only foam rolled once. Fail.
Goals for Next Week
- Kick some serious butt in the Philly half-marathon. I want to break 1:45. It’s going to be hard, but I think I can do it. Speaking of races, too, shout out to our friend Meredith who kicked some serious butt in HER half marathon this weekend in North Carolina (She came in third!!)
- Strength/Flexibility: I skipped yoga and strength training this week. I need to get back on it, bad.
No pumpkin friday kills my soul. :’(
thanks for the shout out
and apologies for the emoticon… i didn’t know it’d do that!
Dizz, you never have to apologize to ME for emoticons.
